Connecting Nomads
Tomorrow afternoon at IAV we're gonna have open workshops for all the people who are interested in our Micro Living project. I will try to interview the visitors about creative travelling and experiences of the journeys that they made in their life. The effects of this interviews you will see later on my blog... I'm hoping to collect interesting and surprising thoughts of IAV students ;)

How do Nomads travel?
OK, i think everyone of us dreams sometimes about having holidays like that:
But what do we gain from this?
Few nights in luxurious conditions, view for the sea from everywhere, suntan...
Well, I wouldn't mind all of this, but some people went too far in this lifestyle...
"Perfect Holiday" means very often Perfect Hotel, Perfect Restaurants, Perfect Shops... but it doesn't mean that the travelers are really interested in the culture or traditions of the country that they are visiting. Usually it's all about showing that they are wealthly and uploading hundreds of fancy pictures with palm trees on Facebook ;) Ok, let them upload what they want...
I just wanted to show that there are different ways to do this. I mean The Perfect Holiday. I think, that there are more interesting things in travelling than just spending time on the beach or between beautiful walls and furniture.
THE PEOPLE.
We just only need to start wanting to meet and understand them.
And it's much more reachable than you may think!
Internet is useful, again :)
I'll focus now on CouchSurfing, which is probably the most popular social network connecting travelers around the world.

How does it work?
Very simple:
You host somebody.
Somebody hosts you in the future.
That's why they call it "Couch surfing" ;) The sentence promoting this activity sounds:
"Participate in Creating a Better World, One Couch At A Time"
You may ask: "How i can create a better world by sleeping on somebody's couch??"

I know personally one person, whose life has been changed thanks to Couch Surfing. Her name is Gosia and she lives now in Italy. She used to participe in this project during her studies, she had guests from all over the world in her tiny student's room. She made a lot of international friendships and at least in Europe she has been everywhere...
Here is Gosia and her extraordinary friend Tom from Australia :)
Well, it's true that perhabs you need some self-confidence and have some trust in people to do this. But the website really takes care about safety of it's members, so you can easily find out, who can be trustworthy. Gosia never had any bad experiences with her couch surfers :)
So, if you also have a free couch in your flat - why not to host a guest from different side of the World?
This is the best way to get to know people. If you know them, you can understand them. If you understand them, you won't fight with them.
That's why we can change the World with simple things - visiting each other, sightseeing together, partying together, making international friendships, international families, international babies... ;)
This is what helps to bring peace in the World.
And this is what it's all about !

Virtual Nomads
When the Nomads are not travelling...
Nowadays, we have many opportunities to make a journey around the World without even moving from the front of your computer. Social networks, chats, skype... this makes me feel like we're all so close to each other. So close and still so far...
And here's my personal research which i did during one hour on Chatroulette :)
And for those, who like to admire landscapes... Travel with a finger on the Google map ;)

What do Modern Nomads eat?
For sure something that helps to save time and money.
I'll present you a way to prepare a tasty diner for less than 2 euro...
If you already have spices and oil olive, you need to buy only canned tomatoes (55 cents in Carrefour Citi) and pasta (about 70 cents).
The heart of this dish is gorgonzola cheese - it's about 2 euro for 150 gram package, which is enough to prepare 4 dishes.
Pour the olive oil into a sizeable saucepan, heat it and fry the tomatoes. Add salt and other spices. Remember to mix it sometimes. Or don't mix, if you prefer burned tomatoes (i don't know, some people do prefer...)
At the same time bring the water to boil in another pot. Add the olive oil and salt, then the spaghetti. Check at the lower end of the cooking time to see if they are "al dente" - meaning they still have a bit of a bite (pasta cooked that way is not fattening :) ). Now pour the water out from the pot and don't rinse the spaghetti under cold water - it should stay hot.
Now add the tomato sauce and mix it with spaghetti.
Cut the gorgonzola cheese for a small pieces and mix it with hot spaghetti and sauce...
... smelling good, isn't it? ;)
Total time: about 12 minutes.

Visits of Modern Nomads
Konstantina came to Poland!
It's been over 2 weeks of memorable moments for both of us. It was her first time in Poland, so she weren't prepared to face bad conditions of unpredictable Polish weather ;) We made a long travel around Poland, visiting almost all geographical sides of my country. Gdańsk, Sopot, Białystok, Warszawa, Kraków, Wieliczka, Zakopane... I think she experienced more winter during this 2 weeks in Poland than in her whole life in Greece. So we may say it was quite exotic ;) Then we spent Christmas with my family in Białystok. Konstantina prepared for us delicious traditional greek Melomakarona!
Somehow, it was so strange for me to see her there, surrounded by the people i know since i was born... It's like the part of my new Erasmus life appeared in the habitat of my childhood. And the World becamed smaller again!

I hope to see soon the rest of my Erasmus Family in Poland!
